4 WEEK UPDATE:
This puppy eats well and isn't afraid to get the food and water she needs.
BIRTH NOTES:
Puppy #1 - 9:30pm 1 lbs 3 oz dark silver female. Robust frame, healthy. She was born head first in the sack. No fluid in lungs
GENERAL NOTES:
This puppy is highly intelligent. She knows what she wants and has a determination to get what she wants. This puppy is very similar to her mother in this way, although she isn't as bold at this time. This puppy will need a family who has experience with dogs, because her high intelligence will challenge a family who doesn't understand how to teach her right from wrong in a human world. This puppy is not outgoing, but more aloof and cautious. This puppy is her own soul. She has a strong feeling of autonomy. She will want to rely on humans for direction, but once she is comfortable with the set rules, she will live as her free self. She would benefit from balanced training techniques and will need corrective measures to understand fully that she can't self-reward anytime she wants to... meaning she can't just grab and take what she wants when she wants it. If you teach this early, she will be an excellent puppy because she is so very smart. But consistency will be the key. With clear boundaries, this dog is going to be an excellent bonded companion for many different types of families.
TEMPERAMENT TEST #2
This puppy moved back and forth on her legs while her head moved side to side during the rough pet, but she did not make a noise. This puppy was loose, still, and quiet during the left until the end of the lift when she felt the handler move to shift her position. At that point, she anticipated the turn and twisted her back legs in the direction of the twisted lift. She made no sound. This puppy initially relaxed into the turn. Her back legs and tail relaxed, although her head was erect and looking around. After about ten seconds, she began flailing her legs about in a gentle way. She cried out a few seconds later and had to have calm down time before she could continue the next test. This puppy was slightly stiff when touched on the head in an unfamiliar environment. She was silent. This puppy actively looked around the bottom and sides of the basket. She was silent, but seemed persistent to discover more about where she was placed. At one point she climbed up on the side of the basket. This puppy sat still for a good ten to fifteen seconds looking around right where she was placed back into the den away from her siblings. She was silent as she stood up and wobbled around her immediate area in a circular format. She eventually found her bearings and headed right back to her siblings without acknowledging the handler's foot in any way.
This puppy receives a score of 5 for this temperament test.
TEMPERAMENT TEST #1:
This puppy was quite vocal for the first 24-hours after birth. This puppy squirmed on the scale and did not want to be picked up. She was quiet uncomfortable, it seemed. She was not content until the other puppies arrived. This puppy squirmed and cried out when held. This puppy moved about frequently at first.
This puppy receives a score of 5 for this first temperament test.
BIRTH NOTES:
She is very vocal, including screaming when touched or moved. This could have been due to the momma being super stressed and worried, which caused her to move about a lot. Also this puppy has to defecate which it could not do on its own, but mom was too preoccupied with her stress that she couldn’t attend. She’s also a first time mom.
After the other puppies arrived, she was much more quiet and content. It could have been the initial chaos or perhaps a tummy ache. We'll keep an eye on her vocalization over the next 24 hours.
4 WEEK UPDATE:
This puppy is not going to be a giant in size. Instead, she is a large-sized dog. We anticipate that she will be very similar in size to her mother, Clementine. That means she will likely reach 27 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh around 85 lbs as an adult. This puppy appears to have lighter brown eyes (not yellow or amber). Her ears are small and her tail is appropriately short in length with no real curve.
BIRTH NOTES:
dark silver female, large (not giant), pudgy, This puppy has a little white patch on her left back toes and a large long bit of white on the chest
