Drop an object into the den away from the pups. This puppy did not startle, did not look up or around, and did not whine or cry out. This puppy receives a score of 10 for this category.

Using your whole hand, roughly pet the pup from muzzle to tail. This puppy sat and was very loose. She did not move and was not stiff. She was silent. This puppy receives a score of 9 for this category.

Pick up the pup from its den using your whole hand to simulate mother dog's mouth. This puppy was loose and silent during the duration of the lift. This puppy receives a score of 10 for this category.

Turn the pup over on its back securely supported. This puppy was loose during the turn and remained loose the entire time. She kept her head turned away and made one yawn. She did not make any sound. This puppy yawned one time and raised a foot at that time, but then placed it back down and remained loose. This puppy made no sound. The handler moved slightly, but the puppy remained loose and without struggle. She was alert and awake. She looked up at the handler and then lifted her head toward the handler to sniff, all the while she was turned. This puppy receives a score of 10 for this category.

Place the pup in a high-sided wicker basket by itself. How does this pup act when separated from littermates? This puppy sat in the basket for five seconds before moving. She moved around the bottom of the basket. She was silent for twenty seconds and then made some soft growling sounds. This puppy receives a score of 10 for this category.
