Updates:

June 03, 2019

All of the puppies in the Crown Jewels Litter have now been exposed to the Parvo virus for ten days, so if any puppy was going to develop symptoms of the disease, we would have already seen it.

The following puppies were exposed to the disease but remained symptom free: Hope, Koh. So, although they did not get sick, they probably still developed antibodies to the virus due to the virus likely being present in their systems. Nonetheless, we did go ahead and give them both Neopar, a modified live virus vaccine targeting both known strains of Parvo.

The following puppies were exposed to the disease but showed only mild symptoms of the Parvo virus:
Cora, Tiara, Dresden, Crystal. They only required intervention for one day and were perfectly normal otherwise. Again, they likely developed antibodies to the strain of Parvo we encountered, but we went ahead and vaccinated these puppies anyway using Neopar.

The following puppies were exposed to the disease and showed moderate symptoms of the Parvo virus:
Tsar, Star. These puppies required multiple days of intervention, but did not require antibiotics or any other medication other than hydration therapy. As with the other puppies, they likely developed their own antibodies for Parvo, but we did go ahead and vaccinate them using Neopar.

The remaining puppy, Prince, was exposed to the disease and showed severe symptoms of the Parvo virus requiring hospitalization and significant medical intervention. He is doing well on his own now with continued antibiotic/anti-nausea treatment. He is currently eating/drinking normally and does not show any continued ill effects of the disease at this time. He is slightly underweight, though, from the anorexia he experienced during the worst of his symptoms, so we will be working to help him regain what he lost in bulk. We did not vaccinate him at this time, due to the continued medication for Parvo he is receiving. He will be vaccinated upon his full recovery in another week.

Actually going through the virus itself gives each of the puppies lifetime immunity from the Parvo disease should it ever be encountered in the future. Although it was harrowing to go through, it is a great bonus for this litter and gives them a kind of super power to take with them when they travel to their new homes.

However, they will continue to be contagious up until 12 weeks of age as the virus runs its course and finally leaves their system. This means that these little guys will not be able to leave us at the normal 8 week mark, but instead, will have to remain here with us until they are no longer a threat to the community at large. So, if you are getting a puppy from this litter, please plan on a small delay before your puppy can depart for your home.

That being said, Jay will likely be able to drive each of these puppies to their new homes directly, without the need to go through airline travel, which would be more expensive because of the increased weight and size of each puppy four weeks older as well as the need for a larger-sized airline approved crate. More details on this as we solidify the dates/times/route, etc. But, look for updates on that coming up.

At this time, we now feel comfortable moving forward with the waiting list, so we will be contacting the highlighted name on the waiting list shortly. We appreciate everyone's patience as we worked through the sudden Parvo onslaught. It is such a relief that we did not lose any of these puppies. Please let us know if you have any questions about anything upcoming.

Dire Wolf Project - Crown Jewels Litter - DireWolf Dogs - American Alsatian Dog

First five puppies born

Puppy #1: 12:15 pm (Koh) - Yellow

Head first in sack. A large wolf gray male with four white paws, a large bit of white on his chest and belly and a long white tipped tail. He has a small white patch on his chin that will go away in a few days. Looks to be medium coated, not long and not short, at this time. He has a large head and weighs 1lb 3oz. He cries out and whimpers for his mother, but knew right where the milk was and drank up. He moves about with ease, but is more active thus far.

Puppy #2: 1:15 pm (Cora) - Purple

Head first in sack. A heavy black/cream female with white paws, white chest and long white-tipped tail. Her left front paw has white spotting to her elbow. Small patch of white on her chin that will disappear in a few days. Her weight at birth is 1lb 4oz. She has a smaller head than her brother. Also looks to be medium-coated. She is quieter than her brother, who constantly complains verbally. But, she has a set of pipes on her when picked up. She gave a high-pitched scream when lifted onto the scale... didn't like the motion or the touch or something. We'll be keeping on eye out for this to see how it manifests.

Puppy #3: 2:40 pm (Tsar) - Blue

Head first in sack. A heavy dark silver wolf gray male with NO white spotting other than a small white tipped tail. All toenails are black, chest is black and nose is black. Very quiet male, not a peep. Already standing up on back legs to propel himself forward. Knows exactly where to go and gets there with ease. His birth weight is 1lb 4oz. He is a longer medium coated male with a long tail. He is long in body. This puppy did not make a sound on the way to the scale, but he did move around in a circle on the scale in an effort to crawl off. This pup has some excellent qualities. It will be hard to pry him out of my hands. Let's see how he progresses, but so far, I am very impressed with him. This puppy solved a problem of being in the wrong spot by feeling his way around and then quietly solving the problem and finding where to be.

Puppy #4: 5:15 pm (Star) - Brown
A smaller silver wolf gray male with significant white spotting on all four paws, down his chest and tummy, and on the tip of his tail. He has white to his knees on both front feet. This puppy was fairly quiet and calm. He came into the world without the sack, head first. He has a long tail and weighed 1lb 2oz.

Puppy #5: 6:00 pm (Crystal) - Lavendar
A small silver wolf gray female with significant white spotting. She has a pink nose and chin as well as all four white paws with white on her chest and down her belly. Her back left paw has the most significant white, but both front feet are white, as if she dipped them all in white paint. She is fairly quiet and calm. She weighed 1lb.

Puppy #6: 6:30 pm (Prince) - Orange
A tiny silver wolf gray male with a bit less white spotting. He has a thin stripe of white down his chest and belly with a tiny bit of white on the tip of his tail. All four paws have white on the toes. He has a long tail and was quiet and calm. He came into the world with his sack intact and head first. He weighed 14 oz at birth. Continues to be quiet hours after birth.

Puppy #7: 7:05 pm (Dresden) - Green
A good sized silver wolf gray male with NO white spotting whatsoever. Black nose, black toenails, black tipped tail, completely pigmented at birth. Awesome. He weighed 1 lb 2 oz at birth. He is quiet and calm and did not mind the scale, although he looked around somewhat for where he was. He came into the world as a breach puppy with the sack broken. I helped birth this puppy so that he would not linger too long in the birthing canal and try to breath. Worked out perfectly. This puppy fusses when he doesn't get his way.

Puppy #8: 7:26 pm (Hope) - Pink
A beautiful long light silver wolf gray female with minimal white spotting. Front toes, back pads, and a tiny patch on her chest and tail tip is all. She has a black nose. Not perfect, but passable. She is super quiet and very chill. So calm, in fact, that I had to check her breathing. She was, but she seemed quite limp and loose, although it appears to be because she is calm. She cleared her airways by hacked up the phlegm instead of crying out or making any noise. I have yet to hear her, much like Tsar. She weighed 1 lb 2 oz at birth and was calm and relaxed on the scale. She looked around with her head slightly in a slow rhythm. At this point, this puppy will not be for sale. She appears to be my anticipated "Hope Diamond." But, let's see how she develops to make sure we have all of the right temperament traits for the breed's future development.

Puppy #9: 8:40 pm  (Tiara) - Gray
A long-bodied black/silver female weighing 1 lb 3 oz at birth. She has significant white spotting with her front left leg showing white spotting to her knees. She also has long white-tipped tail and a large white patch on her chest and halfway down her belly. She has a black nose. She was fairly quiet, but wiggly. This puppy is a traveler. She was on mom's leg and for some reason decided to head away from mom and onto the unknown wasteland of blankets. She did not turn around until she was almost all the way on the other side of the pen. She turned around and then became distressed. Another time, she went under mom's legs and out the rear only to turn around and go up and over mom's legs to get to the other side of mom's tummy. She gets around. She was also seen whimpering some when she wanted something. Not as content as some.
